Mission Statement:
Globally, computing forms the heart of any business information
machinery. In Bangladesh many companies have taken important steps towards computerizing their information flows within the company.
We at Soft-Ed have made it our job to empower & enable companies to
computerize successfully.

Methodology:-

Background : Of any software development project, gathering requirements and preparing the specification design document is the most difficult for three reasons:

  • Clients often do not know what to expect from a computer system.
  • A lot of client work is paper-letter based – signatures on such letters are necessary for approval of day-to-day decisions. Where such decisions are important, the computer system would have to be designed according to the decision process.
  • Programmers are not familiar with the clients system.

Proper requirement gathering is most crucial as if not done properly, the ultimate software system will not be used and will be difficult to implement. This is the reason why most software projects fail. In Bangladesh, the failure rate of software projects is very high.

Live Prototype : To tackle this problem, Soft-Ed has developed a 'live-prototype' methodology that has been proven to work through research at BRAC University. This is essentially a latest Rapid Application Development (RAD) technique that is supported by traditional Systems Analysis and Design documentation techniques. The training conducted for one of our repeat customers Bangladesh Navy and the subsequent system developed proved to be successful using a part of this methodology. In this methodology both the programmers and the users work together on creating a demo model of the real system. The demo allows the users see the capability of the computer system and at the same time the programmers understand the required business rules. Both parties help improve the demo till users are satisfied. This system allows important functional data of the system to be identified and data that is not needed to be discarded. For the 'live prototyping' methodology to succeed, both the programmers and users must work closely together.

Empowering the Client : Once the client has approved the design, the actual system is developed using software tools that are appropriate for the application. Training is also done using the 'live prototype' as it allows the client to see exactly how the real data is processed in the computer. Once the new system is implemented, the client is trained not only on how to maintain the system but also to upgrade the system as the company grows. Clients that have benefitted from this approach are Bangladesh Navy, Grameen Communications, Planning Commission and NBR.
